Itinerary
Day 1: The historical centre
You will arrive in Genoa in the morning and will be given a free lunch. In the afternoon, you will be greeted by a tour guide and taken to the historic centre. A stroll through the city’s narrow streets, known as “caruggi,” reveals remarkable tales that portray the historical record with special illustrations and eccentricities, myths and legends that reveal the charm and beauty of this magnificent city. You’ll also see Piazza De Ferrari, the Doge’s Palace, Christopher Columbus’s House, San Lorenzo’s Cathedral, Piazza Banchi, “Museums of Strada Nuova“, Palazzo San Giorgio and the Old Port area. It includes a “pesto demonstration” cooking class in the Imperial Palace, as well as tastings of this traditional Genoese sauce and “focaccia bread” with a glass of wine. We then transfer to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Urban Trekking
The day starts with breakfast at the hotel, where you will be greeted by the guide, followed by an unusual sightseeing of Genoa, an urban trekking, using the “creuze” (ancient muleteers), which climb from the sea until the quiet hills of the city, from where you can have a striking view of the city. We then go to the ancient Carmelite friars Pharmacy from the 18th century, where they still prepare organic products; it involves a tasting of rose syrup, which is still handcrafted by the friars. Lunch shall be provided and in the afternoon we suggest:
– Visit to the world-famous Aquarium in the Old Port. It is one of the world’s largest aquariums, housing dolphins, sharks, seals, manatees, turtles, reptiles, and many other species.
– Macramè workshop lace knots, Ligurian style;
– Ceramic workshop
We then transfer to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 3: Genoa Fortification and the “Casella Train”
The day starts with breakfast at the hotel and baggage preparation. The tour guide will then meet you and take you to Piazza Manin, a short walk from the historic centre, where you will board the “Casella Train,” a narrow gauge railway that will take you to Campi. We will then go on a natural excursion to Fort Diamante, Forte Fratello Minore, Forte Puin, and Forte Sperone, all of which have dazzling views of the city and the sea. We then take the “Casella Train” back to Piazza Manin for a free lunch before departing.
